Details of Incident
friend ((name removed)) and I were on Linus Playground between 9-9:30 P.M. with a pair of
binoculars. It was the middle of the week in the second or 3rd week of July 1966. The reason I
remember the year as that was when the group "The Monkees" came out.
It was a clear night and we were looking at the stars with the binoculars. From our right (north)
there was an object with a green light on one end and a red light on the other. The lights were
bright, but flashing slowly. This we saw without the binoculars.
It looked like two bowling balls close together. With the binoculars, you could see they were
connected with a black bar. It looked just like the old dumbbells weight lifters used to use.
It flew slowly south, totally silent. We ran across the street to my house and got my brother
((name removed)) and my mom to come and look. ((My brother)) got his camera and took 2 or 3
pictures of it as it went over the neighborhood. We all stood there and watched as it stopped just
above the southern horizon.
It sat there for about 10 seconds then shot straight up and was gone!! We all could'nt believe
the speed as it went up! When ((my brother)) got the pictures back, they were just two fuzzy balls
of white.
Linus Playground is no longer there. It's address was I believe 800 East Linus St. in Bayview.
Some of the old slate walls are still there in the alley and I could pinpoint the location where
we were standing when the object was sighted.
