Details of Incident:

I was working at the Franklin Go-Cart Track located on Highway 41 or known to the locales as 27th Street.  I was 19 at that time and one of the summer employees who kept charge of the crowd using the go-karts.  The time was just slightly after sunset, about 8:30 pm and there was still a fair amount of light and the sky was clear.I was facing a westerly direction watching the people using the go-carts, when I noticedfrom the corner of my eye a fairly large, very black object moving northward towards us, coming from the direction of the 41 Twins.

The object was quite close to the ground (under 500 feet).  It was all black, had a circular bottom, with a top that was slightly convex (dome) shaped.  It moved silently with series of lights which were located on the outside of the craft and rotated clockwise (this is hard to explain without drawing a series of pictures).  At first I thought it was an airplane that had just taken off from Mitchell Field or perhaps an airplane advertising fora local radio station, or even a blimp.  However when I tried to read the message, there was no message, just lights circling the bottom outside rim of the craft.  I also noticedthat there were no visible markings on the craft.

It moved from the south-southeast over the 41-Twin outdoor theaters to the north-northwest and passed about 100-150 yards from us who were mesmerized at the sight.  I asked my co-workers what they saw and I noticed the disbelief on their faces. In fact, about 60 to 100 people who were waiting in line to ride on the go-karts and other rides, grew silent and I noticed that they were also looking at the object. It grew so quiet, you could have heard a pin drop.  The object moved slowly to the northwest until I couldn't see it anymore and life at the park slowly returned to normal.

Like the article in the archives which I read, from the summer of 1977, I also checked the paper the next day and was surprised there was no articles in it pertaining to the sighting.

I am an amateur astronomer for over 40 years and teach the Earth Sciences, Meteorology and Astronomy at a high school in Southeastern Wisconsin.  I know that what I saw was no weather phenomena, Venus, balloon, marsh gas, geese, or airplane. This object was seen during the daytime and by many people.  Like my co-workers at that time, I can  tell you that this object can be surely classified as an authentic UFO.
