My two daughters, one of their friends, and I were shopping at
Brookfield Square in June of 1978. It was about 7:00 p.m. and was still
light out because of daylight savings time. As we left the exit close
to, what was then, Walgreen's, we noticed a group of about ten people
standing looking up in the sky. We also looked up and saw a huge,
oval-shaped, silver craft that was the size of a football field just
hovering silently over the shopping center. There appeared to be small
windows encircling the outside of the UFO. After we stared at it a few
minutes, it zoomed noiselessly out of sight. Our small group disbursed
without saying a word to each other. My daughters, friend and I got
into the car and took a different way home, hoping we would see it in
the sky but did not see it again. I had the girls draw pictures of what
they saw (after putting them in separate rooms) to show my husband what
we saw and the girls all drew the same picture. I called the police
immediately after returning home and asked if anyone reported seeing
the object over Brookfield Square, since there were quite a few
witnesses, but they said they knew nothing about it. I had not told
anyone else about this for many years but I was at a meeting one morning
when the subject of UFOs came up and another woman said she had seen a
UFO at Brookfield Square on the same date that I had seen it. Not only
had she seen it but it had followed her home and hovered over her house
and she and her husband witnessed it from the window facing their back
yard. What a wonderful confirmation of my sighting after all those
years!
