My family was driving up from Minneapolis to my grand parents farm just north of Marengo in Ashland County. Time was about 10-11 pm. I was looking out the window in back seat of our big buick station wagon at the stars. I was 15 or 16 at the time. The night sky was very clear. Stars were bright. I noticed what I thought was a shooting star from up in the sky. It moved very very fast from high in the sky but then to my surprize it stopped dead above the tree line about 300 yards from where the car was driving. At that point I informed my family what I was seeing. It was a dull white light, round, about the size of a car.

As we drove the object followed us hovering just above the tree line. It followed us for about 10 miles, and when we would make a turn, it also made a turn staying just above the tree line moving parallel and in the same direction of the car. We made about 5 90 degree turns during our travels. It was following us, there was no doubt about this. Our family was not scared at this point, just curious what it was.

We ended up driving into my grand fathers farm house and the object stopped directly

accross the road in front of the farm (about 200 yards away). My mother and younger siblings went into the house, my father and I approached the object very slowly (still hovering above the tree line just in front of the farm house). The object made NO NOISE, and hovered for about 2-3 minutes as we ever so slowly approached. We could not see a metalic outline, just a dull white light very round in shape. It did give off enough light that the woods under the object was somewhat bright. We got to about 70-100 yards from the object and it eventually slowly moved away from us just above the tree line at a speed of about 3-5 mph. My father and I got back into the family wagon and tried to locate it again. Since it moved into the woods away from the main road we had no easy way to intercept it. Unfortunately we never saw the object again. To this day we have no explaination for what we witnessed.

The object exhibited extreme speed initially, made no noise, had no "aircraft" type shape, and followed us for about 10 miles.

Too bad digital camera's were not available at the time.
