UFO sighted in Blanchardville?
Was it actually an unidentified flying object or just flashing lights with a practical explanation?
Either way, something was reported in the night sky from the village of Blanchardville, Aug. 17,
and a Lafayette County sheriff's deputy was sent to investigate.
The incident began at about 9:25 p.m. when a nine-year old Blanchardville girl called the sheriff's
department, reporting flashing lights moving up and down at their residence. She and her siblings
thought it was a UFO.
While the girl was on the phone, the sheriff's department received a call from the Grant County
sheriff's department informing dispatcher Sharon Drees they had received a similar call from the girl.
Drees continued to speak with the girl, whose mother was relaying information to her about the
location of their residence. The girl told the dispatcher that when she and her siblings went to
the barn to tell their mother, the lights followed them. The kids got scared and went into the
basement where they heard tinkling noises.
Deputy Walt Fischer was then sent to the scene.
The dispatcher later phoned the girl's mother, who confirmed that there was a light of some sorts.
But her children hadn't convinced her it was a UFO.
The Lafayette County sighting came a day after a number of UFO sightings were made from Sheboygan
to Fond du Lac (See Report). However, published accounts of
those sightings weren't reported until Aug. 18.
