Details of Incident
:

I was sitting on my patio last night at 10:15 P.M. when I observed a bright, glowing object rapidly and noiselessly going from south to north in the eastern sky parallel with the horizon (treeline in my area)at about a 45-50 degree angle from the ground. It then faded and disappeared making me think that it had turned. Moments later, as I watched for the object to return into view I began noticing that in the area of the sky where the object was last seen, there were now several smaller objects moving in irregular fashion- they were at a distance of approximately 20,000-30,000 feet- about what a commercial jet would fly at (a guess on my part.
They were not moving in synchronization but at random. The best way to describe their motion from my frame of reference was that they appeared like an insect flying about in a light fixture or maybe a firefly in your yard- making a curve then zig-zagging - all over the place but yet remaining in a small area of the sky. The altitude and range changed significantly in the same second making me believe that the rate of travel was thousands of miles per hour.
I called my daughter and wife out to the patio after about 20 minutes and they agreed that the star-like objects were indeed moving around in freakish, irregular patterns. About this time 3-4 additional craft such as the first bigger one I saw initially came into view in the eastern sphere of the sky, some traveling north and some traveling west. Shortly after these were spotted and disappeared from view we noticed that perhaps 7-8 more of the smaller objects were now moving in the same fashion in various regions of the sky.
The motions could be described as zig-zag, back and forth on a linear plane, "shaking", "shimmering",  hovering briefly. The objects appeared in size as faint, small stars although one was considerably brighter.
I continued watching these smaller object until 11:45, long after my daughter and wife went to bed. There were a good deal of these moving, small objects in the eastern half of the sky during the last hour- maybe over a dozen. Cloud cover and the city lights of La Crosse obscured to view of the western half of the sky.
