Details of Incident:

At approximately 10 pm, I met 3 of my friends at a park in Lake Mills, WI, which is about 20-30 miles east of Madison. One of them said that there was a "UFO" in the sky and pointed in its direction. I was completely skeptical. I did in fact see the light but I assumed it was an airplane for several minutes. My friend asked me why, if it was an airplane, it wasn't moving. I said that it was because it was traveling away from us, so it would be plausible that we would not perceive any motion left to right. However, the object did not get smaller and it did not disappear over the horizon as I expected it eventually would. I then noticed that it was not moving in any particular direction but that it was in fact moving, althought most of the time it remained still as far as I could tell. It moved in a circular motion sometimes, and sometimes it went left to right, forward and backward. It did look bigger and smaller at times, so I perceived this as movement towards and away from us. I should also add that this object was not very close to us, in fact it seemed to be many miles away. We were looking west or southwest, it is hard to say exactly because I was trying to figure the direction by the nearby I-94 interstate, which goes east to west. I believed its actual location to be somewhere near Madison or nearby south of there but I have listed Lake Mills because that is where we saw it. It appeared to have 3 lights, red, green, and blue. My friend, the one who had originally noticed it, said that UFOs always have this configuration. I still think that is ridiculous. However, I did see something in the sky and it was not a plane, as several planes flew near it and the object did not look anything like them. One plane appeared to fly under it and then turn around, but I cannot verify this for sure because before the plane turned around, if it did, it went behind a treeline. Whether it did or not, the object appeared to react to this particular aircraft. It moved in circular motions laterally and vertically before returning to its hovering position. I thought this was curious, and the plane did not return, at least while I was there. I did not see any part of this object except lights. Intermittently, I attempted to film it with my camcorder which happened to be in my car, but I could not see the object on the screen or through the lens. I assume it did not provide enough contrast for it to show up. Regardless, I still tried to aim in its general direction hoping that something would show up when I connected the camcorder to a TV. I doubt the film would be very useful, and I haven't looked at it yet. We eventually tired of watching it and it didn't appear to be doing anything harmful or even interesting anymore, so we left after about 20 or 30 minutes. We had no contact with it and it did not acknowledge our presence or observation.
