I was driving back to Madison after canoeing the Kickapoo River on highway 12 near the Badger Ammunition Plant. After passing the plant, I noticed 2 lights in the sky, one red and one green, close to the horizon. At first I thought it was a plane. After a minute or so I realized it couldnt be a plane that low because it appeared to be remaining in the same spot. I figured it was a tower then but it had peaked my curiousity. The lights were spread apart kind of like a plane however i could percieve a concave surface or something in between, different than what a plane looks like. The red a green light were also brighter than a planes lights. As I neared it, I could make out a white light behind the other lights. I started looking for the base of a tower either at the ground or at the peak of the lights but could not see anything connecting it to the ground. It was very close to the left side of the southbound lane, too close to be a tower. Then I drove underneath it. it wasnt quite over the road but very close. It was roughly at the height of a tower or lower. It did not appear to be moving at all. I had talk radio on but it was not loud and i did not hear anything outside my vehicle. The object with the lights was triangular shaped however the points of the triangle were "cut" off and those surfaces where the points should have been had the lights that looked more like balls of light versus light bulbs I guess. The color of the object contrasted with the dark night sky. It was a lighter gray color with a black round "dot" in the center, significant in size enough to take up about a third of the surface. If it was at the height of a tower (several hundred feet high) it wouldve been roughly the size of infield of a baseball diamond. After i passed it, I sat for a couple minutes thinking about how weird the object was and what it could be. I called my room mate who was maybe a half mile behind me and asked if had seen which he replied that he hadn't. I turned around just before Sauk City and went back to see if it
was still there. I went all the way to the Badger plant and turned around again and did not see it at all. It had been very prominent so when I was actually looking for it, I should've seen it again. The weather was mostly cloudy with almost no stars in the sky and very dark. I've always believed in UFO's and have wished to see one, but I can hardly believe now what I saw. I called the Baraboo police and reported the sighting and the dispatcher seemed to take it seriously and said he would call the local airfield and see if they knew anything about it. I also called The Wisconsin State Journal and left a message for the morning reporter. This was a crazy experience.
